Morning Battle

This is the battle I fight each and every day:

“…the real problem of the Christian life comes where people do not usually look for it. It comes the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in. And so on, all day. Standing back from all your natural fussings and frettings; coming in out of the wind.

We can only do it for moments at first. But from those moments the new sort of life will be spreading through our system: because now we are letting Him work at the right part of us. It is the difference between paint, which is merely laid on the surface, and a dye or stain which soaks right through.”

C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Today Show, or Bible?

Internet, or devotional?

Telephone, or meditation?

Emails, or prayer?

This is where the battlefield of the mind begins…

…before you’ve even had your coffee…

What is the first thing I reach for on the bedside table?

You’d think that I would know by now.

It is shocking how often I lose this subtle fight for life.

Lord, please help me to put first things first.

Every day.

Does anyone else struggle with priorities?

Ha! Right now my first priority is packing lunches and finding each article required to be dress code complaint.

We should start the day with a little prayer time, although the Pirate and I are both jealous of every last minute of morning sleep. I think it would be not just good for us spiritually, but good to help the kids start the day from a calm state of mind.

As I sit this morning drinking my coffee and reading blogs, um yes, I struggle with priorities.

Yes, I struggle daily.

Reminds me of:
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.

Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the one I love.
