Miscellany

Not a real post… just a couple of questions and an observation.

First of all, the Technology Queen can’t figure out what’s going on with the font sizes. I’m doing what I’ve always done… writing in Word, then copy/pasting into Blogger… but ever since I switched to Google Chrome, we’ve got two different sizes going on. Also, half the time it says "HTML Not Allowed." Anybody smart got a clue as to what’s going on?

Second: I promised back on In the Meantime that the new blog (Margery) would contain more variety… be both deeper and more shallow.

I wrote:

“I must warn you that this new baby is different from its predecessors.

My hopes are that it will be simultaneously more profound and more profane; both more poetic and more prosaic.

More mundane and mystical…

trivial and extraordinary.

Because life is all of these things.

Hmmm. Don’t think I’ve lived up to that promise. Real life keeps getting in the way.

So here’s the question: Is anyone out there interested in more “trivia”?

For instance, I almost posted the recipe for my ‘Super Antioxidant Soup’ the other day, but decided against it. The reason? I guess because I’ve gotten so much feedback about the more spiritually-oriented/inspirational posts, I feel something of an obligation a commitment to keep to that agenda and only write about matters pertaining to faith.

But, as I said on Meantime, life is a mixture. And we all gotta eat. And dress. And live in houses. And stuff like that.

I’d really appreciate the input of my readers on this. Do you come here mostly for spiritual inspiration? Would you feel disappointed if you needed a shot-in-the arm of faith, but got a soup recipe instead?

Or is there room for both?

Let’s have a show of hands.

(I’m going to save the observation for next time.  Too wordy, as always. And my little house guest just woke up.)

Thanks so much!
Kim

Wait... just looked at the Preview, and it's all back to the original font size. Blogger is messing with my head again. Arrrrrgggghhhh.

I love to come here for spiritual inspiration, but recipes are my second favorite thing to read in blogs, so I'm all for it. :)

I love your blog! Recipes would be great! You are right...life is a mix of it all...faith, deeply personal situations, fashion, etc.

Also, I'm never sure if I shared this with you, but here is a link to my blog post from 2008 about how the Lord used Katherine and her story to lead me and my husband to adoption. http://raleighandbridgette.blogspot.com/2008/07/journey-of-my-heart-april-june-2008.html

Our son is waiting for us in South Korea and should be home in the next 2-4 weeks.

For the record, I would LOVE to have the soup recipe. And I don't think I will ever be the least bit disappointed in what I find at your blog. It always seems to be just what I need. Mix it up and post what you want to - we will keep right on reading!

I vote yes. Yep, I realize that is ambiguous. Yes, whichever direction you go.

I will read anything! Although I do come for spiritual inspiration, I can always use a good recipe!

I come here because you have a real, authentic voice of faith. I think your blog should represent whatever you feel comfortable sharing. If that is scripture, so be it; if that is a moment with your family, so be it; if that is a favorite recipe or a favorite quote, I say go for it. I try to write about whatever is on my heart that day at that moment...so it means that I am all over the place. Moreover, Frederick Buechner, one of my favorite authors, talks about the fact that all of life is sacramental, and I am in agreement with him. Whether it be a beautiful sunset, a high school graduation, a tough physical therapy session for Katherine, a moment when you are disciplining James...the Bible teaches us that Jesus taught his disciples from all of life, and I would encourage you to do the same. We welcome your voice...any time...anywhere...on anything!
Blessings, sister!

I love your posts because of your insights into the human condition and your spiritual wisdom and encouragement. I will enjoy recipes or anything else you write. I always comment anonymously because I lack your writing talent.

Kim,
It's your blog - so you write whatever you feel led to do. As you've written before, we are all connected now through this strange medium. Through this new relationship, as with all relationships that means I'm interested in whatever you choose to write about - because it's helping me know more about my friend Kim!!!

Love, hugs and prayers!

I would love to read about all topics, whatever you choose to write about/post is fine! I also love reading everyone's comments. Your blog could be like a "magazine". I am totally addicted to magazines which have so many different topics (stories, recipes, decorating ideas, etc.) so please mix it up!

I come here to read whatever you put up. Does not matter! Its ALL good. And that soup recipe sounds great too. I could have used it this week- fighting off a nasty cold.

I love getting recipes from friends because I know the delicious factor has already been rated. And from the looks of some of those holiday dinner pictures you know how to throw down a spread! So, I'm all for a soup recipe...or even something a little more gourmet! We all have to eat!!

I just finished writing a quick paper for my daughter..I know...I know..but she is overwhelmed with nursing school and this was nothing but a 'busy' project. Anyway, the topic was wellnes in the elderly...and it is documented that those with healthy social relationship are more productive with less risk for cognitive decline. I don't like to think of myself as elderly just yet. BUT....

what more could improve our spiritiaul life than to have a few friends over for a recipe provided by Kim...as well as 'food' for thought....

I love your blog and love the spiritual, but as a former blogger, sometimes it's nice to not feel the pressure to write something incredibly detailed and deep EVERY time and to have the freedom to just write something 'easy.' Recipes are always wanted...and if you could teach us a thing or two about Southern traditions, that would be great. :-)

I love all these comments and suggestions, dear friends!

The soup's on...

My vote is for all of the above! :D Yes, we all gotta eat, and dress, and live in houses and such. Why not be able to write about what strikes you and remove some of the pressure of obligation? Bon

Write whatever you want! I want to hear what comes out of your heart, and being a mother of 3 little girls I know that a mothers heart holds lots of things (and for me it's not all pretty!!).

I'll read anything you write about! Your blog always speaks to my heart! Thank you for sharing in so many, many ways.

I think a mix would be wonderful! It's nice to see different facets of life. I certainly cook, watch movies, decorate my house, buy shoes, and like to see and hear about how others do these things also.
