Let The Healing Begin

I've got some major prayer requests today, for those who are so inclined.

We flew back out to LA yesterday. Our daughter, Katherine, is facing a very complicated surgery tomorrow. I'm sure my son-in-law will do a better job explaining the details on KatherineWolfInfo, but it involves removing part of her thigh muscle and transplanting it into her face. To call this procedure "intricate" would be a wild understatement. They've told us that she will probably be in the hospital for 5 days. (That's pretty long for this era, in case you haven't had to go lately.)

Based on her previous facial surgery, I am assuming that it will be very painful. Please pray for her. Pray for her physical healing, pray for her spirits. Pray for the surgeons and other medical personnel. Pray for a result that is nothing short of miraculous.

As you other parents know, there is just about nothing on earth worse than witnessing your child in pain. So please pray for us, as well. I am feeling slightly sick to my stomach. And of course for Jay, who will be sleeping in the room with her.

Hey, and while you're praying, throw James in there as well. He's really sick. We're going to the pediatrician in a couple of hours.

Thank you for letting me share our burdens with you. Your faithful support means more than I can say.

Unrelated, but related:

This song has been playing around in my head lately. I guess it expresses part of what the community of faith means to me.

Sometimes healing is about more than sewing broken body parts back together.

This won't appeal to everyone, but if you're interested in the context of the lyrics, one of the band members talks about it here:

(Just don't let the hair in the eyes distract you.)

Finally, thanks for all of the book suggestions! If anyone else wants to recommend anything, please keep adding them to the previous post’s comments. BTW, I'm inhaling The Liar's Club. Almost can't put it down.

Blessings,
Kim

I've thought about ya'll all day today. Our wedding anniversary is tomorrow so it was easy for me to remember the date of Katherine's surgery. All of you and all the doctors will be covered in prayer. I know your mama's heart is breaking and my eyes are filled with tears as I think about what you are feeling. Just remember, tomorrow was ordained a long time ago.
And, the song. I just had to smile. It's one of my favorites.
Much love and many, many prayers. Cheri

I've been following your blog and Katherine's since a childhood friend who now lives in Athens told me about Katherine. My son was born with a facial paralysis 28 years ago. We looked for 7 years before we found a doctor. He had the nerve and muscle transplants, plus others, and had wonderful results. I know the procedure has come a long way since then and Katherine will also have great results. My prayers are with Katherine, the doctors and your family.

Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement. Katherine is amazing, cheering the rest of us up and making plans. Amie is here making us laugh. James has nothing fatal.

God is good.

Praying for healing for Katherine and James..and praying for grace, mercy and comfort for all of you. You're brave and your willingness to share the truth about the hardness of it all is so encouraging.

It's 5:00 in Athens, Ga--so 2:00 at Katherine's hospital. All day long I have been "Sitting Halo" for Katherine--and for each one of you. I know that we are connected all over the planet with your family today. We will watch for Jay's update--or from you, Kim. Please let us know when you know something. We're your "out here" family---but are so with you "in there." All love and continous support. The best love to you---Marianne

It's been such a strange slo-mo kind of day. These words have lifted me up from a scary place. She's still in surgery at almost 5 p.m. here. Please pray stamina for the doctors and nurses.

Thank you so much for your love and prayers.

Kim

I agree with you about how it's a million times harder for our kids to be sick, hurt, sad...
